Copy.ai review: $29/mo Chat for 5 seats with GPT, Claude and Gemini, but Workflows start at $1,000/mo. Pricing history, data terms, refunds and who should skip it.
If you last used Copy.ai in 2023, you remember a cheap copywriting app with a free tier of 2,000 words a month and no card needed. That product no longer exists. On October 15, 2025, Fullcast, a revenue-operations software company, announced it had acquired Copy.ai. That was five years to the day after co-founder Chris Lu says he and his co-founder started the company. Copy.ai's own announcement calls the goal "the first end-to-end AI-native RevOps platform", and the homepage now sells "GTM AI", not blog intros.
The prices changed within weeks. Wayback snapshots of copy.ai/prices still list the free plan on August 30, 2025, and it is gone by December 8. In the same window the entry plan went from $49 a month for one seat to $29 a month for five. By late February 2026 the $249 Agents plan had disappeared as well. What is left is a cheap chat product and an enterprise workflow product, with nothing in between.
That gap is the whole story of this review. The $29 plan is a decent deal for one kind of buyer. The feature the company now builds around starts at $12,000 a year.
These are the plans on copy.ai/prices, checked on October 22, 2026:
| Plan | Seats | Workflow credits / month | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chat | 5 | None | $29/mo monthly, or $24/mo billed $288/yr |
| Growth | 75 | 20,000 | $1,000/mo billed $12,000/yr |
| Expansion | 150 | 45,000 | $2,000/mo billed $24,000/yr (through the accounts team) |
| Scale | 200 | 75,000 | $3,000/mo billed $36,000/yr (through the accounts team) |
| Enterprise | Custom | Unlimited workflows | Custom |
There is no free plan, no advertised trial and no per-seat price. A solo writer pays for five seats whether they fill them or not. The site navigation still shows a "Try for free" button, but a help article updated in February 2026 says plainly that "there is no longer a free plan (we had to sunset it)". The same article tells you to buy "either our Chat plan or Agents plan", and that second plan is no longer for sale. It was listed at $249 a month for up to 10 seats and 10,000 workflow credits in December 2025, and it was missing from the page by February 26, 2026.
So the cheapest way into Workflows rose from $249 a month to $1,000 a month in about three months. API access appears only on Enterprise.
Chat is a multi-model assistant with unlimited words and unlimited chat projects. According to a help article updated in April 2026, it runs OpenAI's GPT models, Anthropic's Claude "including Opus variants" and Google's Gemini. Copy.ai says it adds new models "typically within a couple of weeks of a new release". The model list changes as Copy.ai updates it, so the version you used last month may not be the one on offer today.
The reason to pay for this rather than three separate subscriptions is the shared layer on top. Brand Voice stores how your company writes. Infobase stores facts about your products and customers. Both feed every chat for everyone on the workspace. For a team of five producing sales emails and landing-page drafts, that means the same tone and the same product facts without anyone pasting a style guide into each prompt. At $24 a month on annual billing, that is under $5 per seat.
The limits are the ones the pricing page leaves out. Copy.ai publishes no context-window size and no output-length cap for Chat, so you cannot tell how much of a long document a given model actually sees. Replies arrive "in a batch", as the help centre puts it, not streamed token by token, so long answers feel slower than they do in ChatGPT or Claude directly. And there is no API below Enterprise, so you cannot connect Chat to your own tools.
Workflows chain steps together: research a list of accounts, draft outreach for each, rewrite it in your brand voice, push the result into another tool. This is what Fullcast bought Copy.ai for, and it is where the real pricing starts. Growth includes 20,000 credits a month, shared across the whole workspace. Unused credits do not roll over.
What a credit buys is hard to plan around. The help centre says only that "each Workflow run might have different credit consumption" and that "Platinum Actions do cost more credits". It publishes no per-action rates. Two details help: test runs cost nothing, and every new account gets 200 bonus credits that never expire. The help centre does not say whether a Chat-only workspace can spend them.
The only rate limit in the documentation is one you set yourself on a workflow form. That is fine for occasional runs, but a team planning bulk runs has nothing published to size against. Bulk runs are listed as an Enterprise feature anyway.
Copy.ai's security page says "We don't train on your data", and the April 2026 Chat article repeats that your data is not used to train the underlying models. That is the claim most buyers look for, and it is clear.
The contract is less tidy. The Terms of Service, last updated October 12, 2023, give Copy.ai a "perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free" licence to your content in connection with "providing, operating, securing, and improving" its services. On output, section 7(e) licenses Generated Content to you for "your lawful business purposes", and section 17(a) still reads: "Copy.AI's licensor, OpenAI LLC, exclusively owns all right, title and interest in and to Generated Content." That clause was written when OpenAI was the only model behind the product. Claude and Gemini came later, and the Terms have not caught up. The Privacy Notice, dated November 27, 2023, says nothing about model training at all.
None of this means your drafts are unsafe to use. It does mean the paperwork is three years old and predates both the model switch and the acquisition. If output ownership matters to your legal team, ask Fullcast for current terms before you load your Infobase. Copy.ai announced SOC 2 Type II compliance in May 2023, audited by Prescient Assurance. The current report sits behind the trust centre at trust.copy.ai.
This is where Copy.ai loses the most goodwill. Its Trustpilot score was 1.8 from 196 reviews when checked on October 22, 2026. The complaints repeat: people say they were charged for months after cancelling, that emails to support went unanswered for months, and, in a 2024 review, that saved prompts, projects and Infobase content vanished after an update. Support is by email, now at a Fullcast address, and the old support.copy.ai help centre redirects to support.fullcast.com.
The refund rules are stricter than they first look. The Terms promise a full refund within five calendar days of your first purchase. The help centre, updated in February 2026, adds that if you have used the account in the same calendar month, "we cannot provide a refund". In practice, trying the product uses up the guarantee. There are no refunds for partial periods, and you cannot switch from yearly to monthly billing. Pay monthly for the first month, even though annual saves 20%.
To cancel, go to Subscription, then Manage Billing, then Cancel Plan. Given the reviews, screenshot the confirmation and also email [email protected], the address the Terms name. Once the plan lapses, the account reverts to a "Free" state where you can view your workflows but cannot run any new generations, so export anything you need first.
Buy the Chat plan if you are a team of two to five people that wants GPT, Claude and Gemini on one bill, with a shared Brand Voice and Infobase keeping everyone's drafts on-message. At $24 a month on annual billing for five seats, very few tools are cheaper per head for that setup.
Skip it if you write alone. You pay for four empty seats, and the automation that would justify a bigger bill is locked at $1,000 a month. Rytr is simpler and built for one person. If you mainly want several models in one place with more control over each chat, Magai is built around exactly that. If you are a marketing team that wants brand-governed campaigns but cannot justify $12,000 a year, read our Jasper review before you sign anything.
And if Workflows are why you came, be honest about the budget. Copy.ai has nothing between $29 and $1,000 a month any more, and the per-credit costs are unpublished. Below that budget, compare the options in our best AI writing tools roundup instead.
