A hands-on review of GrowthBar, the AI SEO writing and keyword tool now owned by SEOptimer: what it does, its disputed pricing, its weak spots, and who should buy it during the transition.
Table of Contents
GrowthBar sold itself for years as an independent AI SEO writing tool. That chapter closed in 2025, when SEOptimer bought it. Checked in September 2026, the company's own site tells the story plainly: growthbarseo.com and its old pricing page now 301-redirect to seoptimer.com/growthbar. The product still runs on its own subscription plans for now, but SEOptimer handles updates and support, and the Chrome extension ships bundled with SEOptimer subscriptions.
The affiliate program went with it. GrowthBar's LeadDyno page now reads, verbatim: "This affiliate program has been deactivated by the owner." So if a "GrowthBar deal" turns up in a search result, it is stale. You are not evaluating a stable standalone product. You are evaluating a tool in the middle of being folded into someone else's platform.
For a buyer, that redirect has a practical edge. Sign-up, billing and support now run through SEOptimer's side of the house, even while the GrowthBar app and its plans keep their own branding. Fine if the merger completes cleanly. A risk if features get quietly retired or migrated mid-subscription, which is exactly the kind of change an acquisition tends to bring.
Underneath the corporate reshuffle, GrowthBar is a keyword-and-content tool aimed at people who write for search. Its core pieces:
That combination of writer, keyword tool and SERP overlay in one subscription is GrowthBar's real selling point. It does more in one window than a standalone AI writer, for less than an enterprise SEO suite.
Here is the catch. GrowthBar no longer hosts its own pricing page, so there is no single authority to check. Different reviews report different numbers. The most recent figures come from Originality.ai (published August 2025), which lists three tiers billed monthly: Standard at $48, Pro at $99, and Agency at $199. Older reviews from Rankability and GrowthManager.ai list lower prices of $36, $74.25 and $149.25, likely reflecting an annual-billing discount or pre-acquisition rates. Treat any exact figure as provisional until you see it in the SEOptimer checkout.
The tiers scale on three axes: how many AI articles or content audits you can run each month, how many keywords you can track, and how many sites you can connect. The entry tier is roughly 25 articles or audits, 25 tracked keywords and one site. The middle tier jumps to about 100 articles and 1,000 tracked keywords across three sites. The top tier reaches 300 articles and 5,000 keywords. A free trial exists, but its length is disputed too, reported as five days by Originality.ai and seven by Rankability.
Two things recur across independent reviews. Originality.ai judged GrowthBar's generated content "solid but not outstanding," said it needed prompt refinement, and found the output flagged by AI-detection tools. Rankability rates Surfer SEO's topical scoring higher, calling GrowthBar's on-page guidance shallower and "requiring manual editing for quality." The AI writer gets you a draft, not a finished page.
The louder complaint is service. A Capterra reviewer wrote: "they have no customer service and they overcharged me on one month and I wrote three emails and have had no reply." GrowthBar still scores well overall, around 4.8/5 on both Capterra and G2, but recent reviews increasingly mention uncertainty from the SEOptimer transition. One more caveat: whether GrowthBar offers genuine backlink analysis is disputed between sources, so do not assume it replaces a dedicated backlink tool.
RankSpot, a rival tool that reviews GrowthBar, also flags the gaps you would expect from a lightweight suite: no automated publishing or scheduling, and no targeting for AI citations in ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity. Read that with a grain of salt given the source. The feature ceiling it points at is real enough.
Buy GrowthBar if you are a solo blogger or a small team that wants cheap AI drafting plus basic keyword research in one window, and you are comfortable editing every draft before it ships. The Chrome extension that overlays keyword difficulty and domain metrics on Google results is the feature reviewers consistently praise, and it now comes bundled with SEOptimer anyway.
Skip it if you need deep on-page optimization: Surfer SEO gives stronger topical scoring for content teams that live in that workflow. Skip it too if reliable support and a settled roadmap matter to you right now, because a product mid-acquisition offers neither. The safest move may be to wait until SEOptimer finishes absorbing GrowthBar and publishes stable pricing and plans. Until then, treat every quoted number here as checked in September 2026 and subject to change.
