Respona review: now a done-for-you link service at $100-$500 per placement, +20% per add-on, no cash refunds, 12-month credits, and when BuzzStream or Pitchbox fits better.
Most "best link building tools" lists still describe Respona as outreach software: you pick a template, it finds prospects through Google, Ahrefs or Semrush, it digs up email addresses, and an AI pass personalises each pitch. That product still exists, but Respona no longer sells it as the main thing. Since December 2025 you buy finished links.
The switch is easy to date. Archived copies of the pricing page from 9 December 2025 already split the offer into "Done-for-you brand placements NEW" and "Do-it-yourself email outreach LEGACY". Between 12 and 24 December the homepage title went from "Link Building Tool: Get Quality Backlinks with Respona" to "Link Building Services: SEO Backlinks Service by Respona". The help centre's "What is Respona" article was rewritten in May 2026 to call it "a done-for-you link building and digital PR platform".
The process on the homepage now has four steps. You give Respona landing pages, anchor texts and a preferred publisher tier. Respona picks publishers, from its own network or through custom outreach in your niche. Its writers produce the article, and you follow each order in a dashboard as it moves from pending approval to live. Even a testimonial was edited to match: in October 2025 InVideo's Head of Search praised escaping "juggling between different tools for outreach"; today the same quote says "different vendors for quality links and brand mentions".
Why the change? CEO Farzad Rashidi told Latka in August 2026 that the software "hit a plateau at a few hundred K ARR for years" before the move to a done-for-you model, and put revenue at roughly $2.5M ARR with about 15 full-time staff. Respona is a Delaware LLC based in Rockville, Maryland, and Rashidi said Visme, which it spun out of in 2019, still owns about thirty percent.
Prices below were checked on respona.com/pricing on 29 October 2026. There is no subscription to software any more. Each placement is priced by the publisher's Ahrefs Domain Rating and monthly traffic, and it includes the content, the outreach and the publishing.
| Tier | Price per placement | Publisher DR | Publisher monthly traffic |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $100 | 20+ | 100-5K |
| Standard | $160 | 30+ | 100-10K |
| Authority | $240 | 40+ | 500-20K |
| Power | $400 | 50+ | 1K-30K |
| Elite | $500 | 60+ | 1K-100K |
Look at the traffic floor before the DR. A Starter link can sit on a site with 100 visitors a month, and even the $500 Elite tier only promises 1,000. DR is easy to inflate; traffic is the number that says whether anyone will read the page your link is on.
The headline price also assumes you let Respona choose. Pre-approving domains or setting content rules costs "an extra fee", and only the API documentation says how much: 20% for content guidelines and 20% for domain specifications, stacking to 40%. An Authority link you vetted yourself is therefore $336, not $240. Delivery takes 28 days by default; a 14-day fast track exists, but its price is not published anywhere we could find.
Volume brings the price down through "Subscribe and Save", a monthly commitment set on a slider from $3,000 to $80,000. The FAQ gives 10% off at $3,000 a month, 20% at $5,000, rising to 60% at the top step. A team buying ten Authority links a month with both add-ons would spend $3,360 before that discount, which is roughly what it takes to reach the first discount tier at all.
There is also a public Orders API (server-to-server, with webhooks and an MCP server) for agencies that want to place orders from their own tools, and an AI-visibility "Campaigns" feature that checks your prompts across Gemini AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Claude, Perplexity and ChatGPT. That second one is the sales pitch in miniature: the homepage cites an Ahrefs study of 75,000 brands to argue that branded web mentions are the top factor in AI answers, and offers formats "like listicles that LLMs love".
This is the part the pricing page does not put up front. Respona's Terms of Use were updated on 9 December 2025, the same week as the pivot, and section 13.4 is blunt: "All fees are non refundable. We do not provide cash refunds." If Respona fails to deliver a link within 60 days of payment, your "sole remedy is to request an account credit".
Those credits do not last. Section 13.5 says credits without a stated expiry lapse twelve months after issue and cannot be resold, transferred or turned into cash. Unused credits bought through Subscribe and Save are not refunded either, although they stay in the account if you cancel. Section 11.8 then closes the remaining door: losing rankings, a publisher removing your link, or being unhappy with search results "do not entitle you to a refund".
The help centre is softer. Its refund article, updated in January 2026, says you "may be eligible for a refund" on an order that has not started. Treat that as goodwill, not a right: the Terms are the contract you accept. What the Terms do promise is a replacement if a placed link is removed within twelve months, at no extra cost. That is a real guarantee, and longer than many link vendors give, but notice that it replaces a link rather than returning money.
There is no free trial and no sample order. The pricing page and homepage offer only "Create an account", and a G2 reviewer in November 2025 listed "no free trial" among their dislikes. The old software had a 14-day trial; the service has none.
Until December 2025 Respona was a well-liked outreach platform. In May 2025 its plans were Starter at $198 a month (2 mailboxes, 10,000 data credits a month), Pro at $495 (5 mailboxes, 25,000 credits, bulk AI personalisation) and Unlimited at $799 a month billed annually. Extra mailboxes cost $49 each, and finding one verified email burned 5 credits. Every plan had unlimited emails, campaigns and team members.
That history matters for one reason: the ratings. Respona's pricing page shows "4.8/5 based on +200 reviews", and G2 had it at 4.8 from 202 reviews in October 2026. Nearly all of those reviews describe the DIY software, and the complaints in them are about software problems. "Sometimes the contact search results can include a few outdated emails", wrote one reviewer in November 2025; a Capterra reviewer found contact sourcing "sometimes overly reliant at info@ emails". The recurring theme, though, was cost against results: "It seems expensive if you dont get any links." The service model answers that complaint directly, since you pay only for links that go live. It does not inherit the ratings, because almost nobody had rated it yet.
The DIY tool has not quite disappeared. In July 2026 a founder post announced "Respona is Back on AppSumo!", selling lifetime deals from $79 to $699 with email accounts, monthly credits and unlimited users to new customers only. The deal is sold out as of 29 October 2026, and we found no shutdown notice for the legacy product, but nothing on respona.com sells it any more. If outreach software is what you want, do not build a workflow on a product its owner labels LEGACY.
Respona calls these "brand placements", but a link you pay a vendor to get published is what Google's spam policies describe as a link scheme. Respona carries none of that risk for you: section 11.8 already says lost rankings earn no refund. Most of the industry operates in this grey zone, and plenty of sites buy placements without trouble, but the exposure belongs to the buyer. A reasonable defence is to use the domain-specification add-on and refuse anything that looks like a link farm, even at 20% extra.
The other risk is quality you cannot see before paying. Content is written by Respona, the publisher list comes from a network you do not control, and the traffic floors are low. Because unused money turns into expiring credit rather than a refund, a small first order is the only sensible test.
Buy Respona if you want links and brand mentions without running outreach, and you can spend $100 to $500 a link without needing the money back if a batch disappoints. It suits SaaS marketing teams chasing mentions in AI answers, and agencies that want to resell placements through an API. Start with a handful of Authority orders with domain approval switched on, check the sites they land on, then decide whether a $3,000-a-month commitment makes sense.
Skip it if you want to own the publisher relationships, write your own pitches, or measure what outreach actually costs you. In that case BuzzStream is the cheapest way in at $49 a month for 500 contacts, and Pitchbox is the agency-grade option at $210 a month on a mandatory one-year term. Both leave the content, the risk and the relationships with you. With Respona, all you keep is the dashboard and the invoice.
