BrightLocal review: flat location-band pricing from $41/mo, rank tracking and geo-grid limits, Citation Builder costs, the new Local AI Visibility tracker, refund rules and the alternatives.
BrightLocal spent 2026 rebuilding itself. AI Insights arrived in February, a new platform with a redesigned Local Search Grid and a Location Score shipped in July, and in August came Local AI Visibility, which tracks how a business shows up in Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode and ChatGPT. Over the same stretch the prices went up, quietly, and the help centre has not caught up with the pricing page.
The company started in 2009 as a UK local SEO agency, is still run from Brighton, and says it now serves more than 15,000 agencies, brands and local businesses and that revenue passed $20M in 2025. The core job has not changed: tell you where a business ranks in the map pack, where its name, address and phone number are wrong across the web, and what its reviews look like. The question for this review is whether that core is still worth the higher price, and where Whitespark, Semrush Local, Moz Local and Yext beat it.
Everything below was checked against BrightLocal's pricing page and help centre on October 12, 2026.
This is the detail that decides whether BrightLocal is cheap or expensive for you. The price covers a band of locations, not each location. BrightLocal's help centre is explicit that you pay one flat rate for the plan's range, so five locations cost the same as two.
| Locations | Track | Manage | Grow |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | $41/mo ($31/mo yearly) | $54/mo ($40/mo yearly) | $65/mo ($49/mo yearly) |
| 2-5 | $62/mo ($47/mo yearly) | $76/mo ($57/mo yearly) | $87/mo ($65/mo yearly) |
| 6-10 | $83/mo ($62/mo yearly) | $109/mo ($82/mo yearly) | $131/mo ($98/mo yearly) |
| 11-20 | $104/mo | $153/mo | $197/mo |
| 21-30 | $156/mo | $230/mo | $296/mo |
| 241-250 | $1,311/mo | $1,594/mo | $1,814/mo |
Track is tracking and audits only: rank monitoring for up to 100 keywords and four competitors, a geo-grid for five keywords, citation monitoring and a Google Business Profile audit. Manage adds AI Insights, Active Sync and GBP post scheduling. Grow adds the Reputation tools for monitoring, requesting and showcasing reviews. White-label reporting and unlimited users come with all three, and that pair is why agencies stay. Citation Builder is extra on every plan.
Those numbers are higher than they were. One-location Track is $41 today; BrightLocal's own billing article, last updated in April 2026, still works through examples at $39 for one location, $59 for 2-5 and $79 for 6-10. The managed Local SEO Service rose harder: Wayback Machine snapshots show $799/month through December 2025 and $1,299/month from April 2026 on. Add-ons such as daily rank tracking, Bing tracking and bigger grids have no published price at all.
The Local Rank Tracker is where most accounts spend their time. It tracks organic and map-pack positions per location and keyword, and the Local Search Grid plots rank across a grid of points so you can see a dentist rank third on its own street and twentieth two miles away.
The limits are the part the sales page does not lead with. A rank report holds 100 search terms, and above 100 locations you need a custom plan to go beyond that. The grid covers five keywords unless you buy the add-on. Manual report runs are a monthly allowance, from 3 on one location up to 100 at 91-100 locations, and unused runs expire at the end of the month.
Speed is the recurring complaint. BrightLocal's September 2025 release notes conceded that rank reports "may now take a little longer to run during busier periods", and Trustpilot reviews from 2026 go further, describing reports that once took minutes taking hours or failing, plus support replies that read like templates. The overall Trustpilot score is still 4.0 out of 5 from 771 reviews, checked on October 12, 2026, so this is a pattern rather than the norm, but it is the pattern to test during the trial.
Citation Tracker scores how complete and consistent your listings are and flags each site where the name, address or phone number is wrong. It is included on every plan. Fixing those listings is a separate purchase.
Citation Builder is advertised from $2 per citation, but that price needs a bulk order of 500 credits or more. A small campaign pays $3.20 per site. Standard turnaround is seven days, and Citation Builder Express, launched in January 2026, cuts it to 24 hours for an extra 20% of the manual submissions' value. Once a campaign reaches the submitting stage it cannot be cancelled.
Data aggregator submissions are a 12-month rental. Skip the renewal and your data stays on those networks, but you can no longer update it, which matters the day you move premises. Active Sync, included on Manage and Grow, pushes edits to connected sites directly; if you stop using it, BrightLocal does not roll your changes back.
This is the new reason to look at BrightLocal. For a set of prompts, it reports how often AI Overviews, AI Mode and ChatGPT mention the business, its share of voice against competitors, its average position in the answer, and how the AI describes it, rolled up into a score out of 100. Having it next to rank and citation data, in the account an agency already reports from, is the point.
It is early, and it shows. There is no export and no white-label report for it yet; BrightLocal lists both as roadmap items, which is awkward for an agency feature. It runs only on the new platform, not on legacy Single Business, Multi Business, SEO Pro or Simply Listings plans, and Custom plans above 100 locations do not get it automatically. Each manual re-run spends one of those monthly report runs.
The 14-day trial asks for no card and opens every feature, AI Insights included, with two exceptions worth knowing: Citation Builder is paid even during the trial, and review requests are capped at 200 a day against 2,000 on a paid plan. When the trial ends the account sits as "Trial Expired" rather than vanishing.
Plans are month to month, but every payment is non-refundable, and unused time is not refunded when you cancel. On the yearly plan that means up to eleven months gone if the tool disappoints in month one; several 2026 Trustpilot reviews say exactly that. Start monthly. After cancelling you keep access until the paid period ends, then lose your reports and data, and only the account owner can cancel at all.
Downgrades are murkier. One help article, updated in August 2026, says a downgrade takes effect immediately with no refund, and the pricing FAQ agrees. Another, updated in April 2026, promises a prorated credit. Ask support in writing before you rely on either.
For one location, BrightLocal is not the cheap option. Semrush Local Base is $30 per location per month billed yearly, against $41 for one-location Track billed monthly, and Moz Local starts at $16/month billed yearly if all you need is listings management. The banding flips this from two locations up: five locations on Track cost $62/month, while five on Semrush Local Base cost $150.
Whitespark is the pick for rank tracking alone, with Local Rank Tracker plans from $14 to $200 a month if you do not need citation and review tools in the same white-label account. Yext sells a listings network rather than an SEO toolkit; PowerListings packages run from $199 to $999 a year and suit brands that want listings handled, not analysed.
Buy BrightLocal if you are an agency or a business with 2 to 50 locations that needs white-label reports, unlimited users and a single bill per location band. Manage is the plan most of those buyers should land on, since Track cannot fix a listing and Grow is only worth it if review requests are part of the service you sell. Local AI Visibility is a real head start on tracking AI answers, provided you can live without exporting it for now.
Skip it if you run one location and only want listings kept tidy; Moz Local or Semrush Local does that for less. Skip it if you only need map-pack rank tracking, where Whitespark is cheaper. Skip it if you want listings managed for you at brand scale, which is Yext's business, or BrightLocal's own $1,299/month service. Whichever way you lean, test report speed in the 14-day trial and pay monthly until it has earned a year.
