There are two Link Whispers, and they are not the same product

Search "Link Whisper" and you find two things that share a name and little else. One is a paid plugin sold at linkwhisper.com by Spencer Haws. The other is a genuinely free plugin on WordPress.org, also called Link Whisper, with more than 30,000 active installs and a 4.1 out of 5 rating (checked in September 2026). Buyers conflate the two constantly, and their feature sets do not line up.

The free WordPress.org plugin gives you AI link suggestions inside the editor plus a basic link-health and orphan-page report. That is useful on its own. What it holds back for the paid upgrade is the part most people actually came for: the broken-link checker, bulk link insertion, and auto-linking by keyword. So the free tier is a real tool rather than a crippled demo, but the three features that turn internal linking from a manual chore into a batch job all sit behind the paywall.

Pricing: four annual plans, and a headline that fights its own table

Link Whisper sells annually, not monthly, and there is no monthly option. Prices below were read off the pricing page in September 2026; the page itself was last modified on 8 July 2026.

Here is the first thing worth flagging: the homepage meta description advertises "From $10/month," but the pricing page's own cheapest plan works out to $8/site/month, or $97 for the year. The two numbers do not agree, and neither of them is a real monthly charge, because you pay for twelve months up front. It is a small thing, but it is the vendor contradicting the vendor on the price, which is exactly the detail a buyer should not have to reconcile.

All four tiers carry the same refund line, quoted here with the vendor's own typo intact: "60-day money back gurantee (No questions asked)." That 60-day window is genuinely longer than most plugins offer. There is no free trial of the paid product, though; the word "trial" does not appear on the pricing page at all, so the guarantee is your only way to test it without committing the year. Premium support and a 1:1 onboarding call are listed for Growth, Pro and Agency, but not for Starter.

The AI suggestions are metered, and the meter moves fast

Every tier ships a fixed pool of AI credits: 2,000 on Starter, 3,000 on Growth, 5,000 on Pro, 10,000 on Agency. The annual price you pay does not buy unlimited AI. It buys that pool, and the pool is the cost most likely to bite after signup.

How fast does it drain? One user on the WordPress.org support forum reported that the AI tool "used 16,414,829 tokens in 24 hours" and that a $20 credit balance meant to last months was gone in days. Whether that reflects a bug or heavy legitimate use, it points at the same risk: the headline price is the floor, not the ceiling, and a large site running suggestions across its whole archive can exhaust an allowance quickly. Budget for the annual fee plus whatever credit top-ups your content volume forces.

How good are the suggestions? A hands-on test says about four in ten

Internal linking tools live or die on suggestion quality, so the number that matters most is not the price. In a hands-on third-party test at userp.io, Link Whisper proposed 108 internal links, of which only 45 were relevant enough to actually publish. That is a 41.67% usable rate. It means you cannot accept suggestions in bulk and walk away; roughly six of every ten still need a human to reject them, which turns "automatic" internal linking back into supervised internal linking.

User reviews split hard on this. On Capterra, where the plugin holds 3.6 out of 5 across a small sample, a one-star review from July 2026 says the buyer "had to exchange email for almost a month but in the end they just refunded my money because their tools is not working," and another calls the suggestion quality "very poor." A five-star review is more positive but still flags that "the software is quite pricey" and that "there is no unlimited website license available." Read together, the pattern is a capable tool that some people cannot get working and few call cheap.

What you need to run it

Link Whisper is a WordPress plugin, and the vendor is explicit that you need "a self-hosted website that has WordPress installed." That rules out sites on WordPress.com's hosted (non self-hosted) plans, which is the single most common reason the plugin will not install for someone who bought it. Check your hosting before you buy.

On the plus side, the same userp.io test found it works with the Elementor and Divi page builders and did not slow page speed even after more than 100 links were added, though that is a reviewer's own measurement rather than a vendor promise. And to the vendor's credit, it does not oversell the outcome: the pricing page states plainly that "there is no guarantee that you will rank better in Google just because you start using Link Whisper." Treat it as a time-saver for building internal links, not an SEO ranking machine.

Who should buy it, and who should skip it

Buy the paid plugin if you run a content-heavy, self-hosted WordPress site with hundreds of posts, you will genuinely review each suggestion rather than accept them blind, and you can live with credit metering as a variable cost on top of the annual fee. For that user the bulk insertion and broken-link checker save real hours, and the 60-day refund window makes the first commitment low-risk.

Skip it if you are on WordPress.com hosted plans, because it will not run. Skip it if you expect hands-off auto-linking, because a 41.67% usable rate means you are still the editor.
