A hands-on look at SE Ranking Core: its $129/month price, seat and keyword limits, the 14-day trial caps, the 60-day data-deletion clause, and how it now compares with Semrush and Ahrefs.
SE Ranking is an SEO platform that started life in 2013 as a single rank tracker and now bundles keyword research, site audits, backlink analysis and, more recently, AI search visibility. It is run by SER Acquisition Inc., with legal addresses in London and Wilmington, Delaware and working offices in Kyiv, Wroclaw and Warsaw. That much is ordinary. What is not ordinary is how the entry point changed.
The old Essential, Pro and Business tiers are gone. SE Ranking's own help center now refers to them as "Legacy plans" and sells Core, Growth and Enterprise in their place. The company does not state anywhere I could find when the switch happened, so I will not pretend to a date. What matters is what existing customers say came with it. On Trustpilot, Andrew Warren (GB) wrote on June 16 2026 that he was "migrated, without my consent, to a significantly more expensive plan," and that "the one feature I valued most, SEO page optimisation, has been removed." Pixel Online Creation (FR) wrote on April 1 2026 of being "migrated without my consent to a new offer that's five times more expensive," and separately reported that rank tracking broke after a March 2026 Google update "despite continued charges for the service."
Two reviews are not a pattern by themselves. But they name the same mechanism, a forced migration onto a pricier tier, and that is the thing to weigh before you sign up: the plan you buy today is not a fixed contract.
Checked on the official pricing page on 22 September 2026: Core is $129/month billed monthly, or $103.20/month if you pay for a year up front (a 20% discount). Growth is $279/month monthly, $223.20/month annually. Enterprise is quote-only.

Core buys you 10 projects, a single manager seat, 2,000 daily keyword checks, 5 GEO domains, 250,000 audit pages a month and 25,000 API credits a month. That single seat is where the entry plan bites: if two people on your team need to log in, Core is not enough, and the jump to Growth (three seats) triples several other limits you may not need. Growth raises the ceiling to 30 projects, 5,000 daily keyword checks, 15 GEO domains, two million audit pages and 100,000 API credits.

The daily keyword check figure is the one to read closely. It is a per-day allowance, not a pool, and if you exceed it there is no automatic overage charge. You have to manually buy a Keyword Add-On, sold in blocks of 100 keywords on Core. SE Ranking lists no flat price for that block; it is priced through an interactive checkout calculator, so budget for it as a variable rather than a line item.
You can try SE Ranking for 14 days with no credit card, and it does not convert to a paid plan when it ends. The help center is unusually direct about this: "SE Ranking's free trial does not renew into a paid subscription, and you will not be charged when it ends." That removes the usual worry of a forgotten card charge.
The catch is that the trial is not a preview of Core. It caps you at 750 tracked keywords per day, against Core's paid 2,000/day, plus 20 AI prompts a day and AI competitive research for up to 3 domains (checked 22 September 2026). So the trial tells you whether the interface fits how you work. It does not tell you whether Core's paid keyword allowance is enough for a real site, because you never see that allowance until you pay.
One clause deserves more attention than SE Ranking gives it. From the help center on purchasing a plan: "If you do not extend the subscription plan within 60 days, the data in the account will be deleted." Lapse for two months and your rank history, audits and reports are gone, not archived. For an SEO account, where the value is in the trend line, that is a real cost of pausing.
A few more things worth knowing before you commit:

At the entry tier, SE Ranking is still the cheaper door, but the margin is thinner than it used to be. Prices checked against each vendor's own site on 22 September 2026: Semrush's cheapest tier, now called "SEO" (renamed from Pro), is $139/month monthly and $117.33/month annually, roughly 7-12% more than SE Ranking Core. Ahrefs' cheapest full tier, Lite, is $129/month monthly, matching SE Ranking Core to the dollar, though Ahrefs also offers a reduced Starter plan at $29/month.
So the old pitch, "the same job for much less," has narrowed to "a little less than Semrush, level with Ahrefs Lite, with a cheaper Starter option only on Ahrefs." SE Ranking's genuine edge now is breadth per dollar at the bottom tier: 2,000 daily keyword checks and 250,000 audit pages on Core is generous next to what $129 buys elsewhere. Its weakness is the seat limit and the migration risk above.
Buy SE Ranking Core if you are a solo consultant or a one-person in-house SEO who wants deep keyword and audit volume for the lowest workable price, and you are comfortable paying annually to lock the rate. The volume on Core is the reason to choose it, and the no-card 14-day trial lets you test the interface at no risk.
Skip it if your team needs more than one login, because Core's single seat forces you up to Growth at more than double the price, or if you cannot tolerate the account being restructured under you. On the evidence of named Trustpilot reviews, a plan migration you did not ask for is a live possibility, and the 60-day data-deletion rule punishes any gap in billing. If either applies, Ahrefs Lite at the same $129 monthly, with a $29 Starter tier to grow into, is the steadier choice.
