Every price on the pricing page doubles when you renew
The headline number on AIOSEO's pricing page is only the first-year number. Checked on 22 September 2026, the plugin runs a standing "50% off" promotion that is not a launch sale: it sits on the page as the normal price, and the figure you pay in year two is exactly twice what you agreed to at checkout.

If you abandon the checkout, a popup offers a deeper 60% off to finish the purchase, which only widens the gap between the first invoice and the second. What the free plugin actually does
The free "All in One SEO" on WordPress.org has over 2 million active installs and a 4.7-out-of-5 rating from more than 5,000 reviews, and it needs WordPress 5.7 or newer. Free covers SEO titles and meta descriptions, an XML sitemap, schema markup, Google Search Console integration and TruSEO content analysis. That is enough to run a single blog without paying anything.
The paywall starts where sites get complicated. Local SEO, the Redirect Manager, the Internal Link Assistant, advanced sitemaps, Client Management and keyword Rank Tracking are all held back to paid tiers. One recent change is worth flagging: as of plugin version 4.9.8, dated 10 June 2026, the REST API is free on every plan including the free Lite build, and AIOSEO added an MCP server so AI agents can drive it. Ability-gated endpoints still need the tier that unlocks the underlying feature, so Link Assistant calls require Pro and Search Statistics requires Elite.
What each paid tier adds
Moving up the ladder is mostly about site count and which modules switch on. Basic adds Smart Schema Markup, WooCommerce SEO and unlimited SEO audits on a single site. Plus (3 sites) layers on Local Business SEO, Author SEO and image optimization. Pro (10 sites) is where the tools most agencies want appear: the Internal Link Assistant, Advanced Redirects, Event Schema and Video and News sitemaps. Elite (100 sites) is the agency tier, adding Client Management, Keyword Rank Tracking, Search Statistics and Content Decay Tracking.
The AI credits attached to each plan are a separate pool from the subscription. Free and Pro users alike draw from it, subscription credits are spent before any you buy pay-as-you-go, and a Pro subscriber's yearly allowance resets on the renewal date. AIOSEO does not publish a fixed credit cost per generation, so treat the yearly totals as a rough ceiling rather than a per-title budget.
What the reviews warn about
On the plugin's own WordPress.org review page, filtered to one-star and read on 22 September 2026, the most repeated complaint is not a missing feature. It is plugins the tool installs on its own. Reviewers describe AIOSEO "automatically installing plugins without my authorization" and the "surreptitious installation of other unwanted plugins", meaning other Awesome Motive products landing on their site without a clear prompt. The second theme is an AI Assistant that will not fully switch off, captured by the review titled "Cannot Disable AI Assistant!".
After those come the familiar ones: aggressive in-dashboard upsell nagging, a site broken after an install or update, new articles not getting indexed, and trouble turning auto-renewal off. Two are corroborated by AIOSEO's own changelog rather than just user anger. It documents fixing a cache-corruption bug that could throw a fatal error and make some sites inaccessible on certain MariaDB versions, and a schema-duplication conflict where AIOSEO and a theme or a rival plugin emit overlapping structured data that Google's Rich Results Test flags as duplicate. Support is worth pricing in too: Pro support runs Monday to Friday, US East Coast business hours only, not 24/7.
Recent releases and the built-in redirects
AIOSEO ships often. Version 5.0.0, dated 30 July 2026, was a major TruSEO revamp adding a spell checker, AI optimization tools and an enhanced highlighter across editors. Version 5.0.1 on 20 August 2026 extended TruSEO content analysis to taxonomy terms, starting with WooCommerce product categories, and the current 5.0.1.1 is dated 28 August 2026. Slightly earlier, 4.9.9 on 23 June 2026 added SEO Alerts that push notifications by email or Slack.
The redirects are the practical selling point. AIOSEO bundles a native Redirection Manager with 301, 302 and 307 types, automatic 404 detection, bulk CSV import, full logs, regex and wildcard matching, and full-site redirects for domain migrations, starting at its paid tiers. Per AIOSEO's own feature page, Yoast makes you buy Yoast SEO Premium to get redirects at all, so this is one line item where the bundled approach saves a separate purchase.
AIOSEO versus Yoast and Rank Math
We have already put Rank Math head to head with Yoast, so the useful question here is where AIOSEO sits against both. Its pitch is the all-in-one bundle: titles, schema, sitemaps, redirects and internal linking inside one plugin, priced by site count rather than by feature add-on. Two details soften the site limits in practice. Staging and development subdomains such as dev.mysite.com or staging.mysite.com do not count against your activation limit if they follow recognized naming conventions, and the migration importer explicitly handles moves from Redirection, Rank Math, Yoast SEO, 301 Redirects and WPML, so switching in is less of a rebuild than it looks.
Against that, the ceiling is the renewal price. A single-site owner pays $49.50 then $99 a year for Basic, and Rank Math's paid entry point (reviewed on this site) starts lower, which matters most for exactly the people who only need one licence.
Who should buy it, and who should not
Buy AIOSEO Pro if you run up to ten WordPress sites and want redirects, schema and the Internal Link Assistant living in the same plugin you already use for titles and sitemaps, and you go in knowing year two costs $399, not the $199.50 on the checkout screen. The bundled redirects and the forgiving migration importer are real time savers at that scale.
Do not buy it if you run a single site that only needs titles, a sitemap and schema: the free plugin already does that, and if you want a paid plugin at a one-site price, Rank Math is the cheaper starting point. Skip it too if you manage client sites you do not fully control, because the recurring reports of AIOSEO installing other Awesome Motive plugins without a clear prompt are the last thing you want explaining to a client.
