Whitespark review: Local Rank Tracker from $14/month, Local Ranking Grids vs Local Falcon credit pricing, Citation Finder, the one-time Listings Service, and the no-refund catch.
Most local SEO suites want you on a bundle. Whitespark says the opposite on its own pricing page: "We don't believe in forced bundling. Whitespark is not a single platform, and that's by design." Every product is bought on its own, so a plumber who only wants to know where they sit in the Google map pack can pay $14 a month for that and nothing else.
The company has been at this a long time. It was founded in 2005 in Edmonton, Alberta, is run by founder Darren Shaw, and has been building and cleaning up citations since 2012 for what it says are over 47,000 businesses and agencies. Shaw also runs the annual Local Search Ranking Factors survey, which is the closest thing local SEO has to a reference text.
The lineup splits into software you subscribe to (Local Rank Tracker, Local Ranking Grids, Local Citation Finder, Reputation Builder, Local Platform) and services you pay for once (the Listings Service, Yext replacement, GBP reinstatement). All prices below are USD and were checked on whitespark.ca in October 2026.
Pricing is per "location keyword" - one keyword checked in one city. Whitespark's own example: a plumber with three locations tracking ten keywords each needs 30. The entry plan covers 100, which is ten keywords across ten towns, with unlimited domains and locations on every tier.
| Plan | Location keywords | Weekly tracking (annual / monthly) | Daily tracking (annual / monthly) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small Business | 100 | $14 / $17 | $20 / $25 |
| Specialist | 250 | $30 / $35 | $42 / $50 |
| Agency | 1,000 | $60 / $70 | $85 / $100 |
| Enterprise | 2,500 | $117 / $140 | $167 / $200 |
Read that $14 carefully. It is weekly tracking, billed for a year up front. Daily checks on the same 100 keywords cost $25 if you pay month to month. Even so, BrightLocal's cheapest plan with rank tracking, Track, is $31 a month on annual billing and $41 monthly - more than double, though it bundles other tools you may never open.
Two details only show up once you are inside. You can pick a three-hour crawl window (set in UTC) so rankings are gathered while the business is open, which matters because what the pack shows can change with opening hours. And the first results can take up to 24 hours, so a trial started on a Friday afternoon tells you nothing until Saturday. Agencies get white-label reports on a custom domain such as rankings.yoursite.com, behind a password, plus a bulk export of every campaign to CSV. There is a 14-day free trial; whether it asks for a card is not stated on the page.
A single rank check tells you where you appear from one point in the city. A geo-grid scan checks from dozens of points at once and paints the result on a map, which is how you discover you rank third downtown and nowhere two kilometres north. Whitespark launched Local Ranking Grids in mid-2025 to compete directly with Local Falcon, the tool that made geo-grids popular.
It runs on credits: one credit per grid point, so a 5x5 grid costs 25 and the largest 15x15 grid costs 225. You get 200 free credits with no card. Paid plans are monthly - $10 for 2,000 credits, $20 for 5,000, $50 for 15,000, $100 for 32,000, up to $200 for 65,000. Local Falcon charges $99.99 for 31,250 credits on its Pro plan, so at the $100 level the two are at near-identical prices. The difference is at the bottom: Whitespark's $10 tier has no match in Local Falcon's lineup, whose Starter plan is $24.99.
The feature that sets it apart in 2026 is an MCP connector. Whitespark's pitch is "Connect your favourite AI tools via MCP, and let them dig into your grids, scan history, competitor data, and more." In practice that means asking Claude or another MCP-capable assistant which competitor gained ground in a suburb last month, instead of exporting CSVs. There is also an API, but its price is not published. Shared grid reports come without Whitespark branding by default, which saves agencies a white-label upgrade.
Two limits bite. Unused credits expire at the end of each billing period, so a $50 plan you only half use is a $50 plan anyway. And a grid's size is fixed once it is created - start a 7x7 and decide you need 11x11, and you build a new grid and lose the comparison history.
Local Citation Finder looks at which directories your competitors are listed on and you are not. The free tier gives one campaign and three searches a day with trimmed results, which is enough to judge it. Paid plans run from $33 a month annually ($39 monthly) for five campaigns and 20 searches a day, up to $124 annually for 100 campaigns. It covers 43 countries. White-label exports start only at the Agency tier, $49 a month annually.
Finding gaps is half the job; filling them is the Listings Service, which Whitespark recently merged from its old Citation Building and Audit & Cleanup products. It is a one-time fee per location, no subscription, and you keep every login it creates - the sharpest contrast with Yext, whose listings go dark when you stop paying. US packages are $399 (cleanup of the top 10 sites plus 42 new listings), $599 (top 15 sites plus 80 new) and $999 (cleanup of the top 100 sites). A Yext replacement is $399 per location, and later updates cost $2 per listing.
Here is the part the package names do not tell you. Whitespark states plainly that it does "not guarantee live listings", and that typically about 30% of submissions are live when the report arrives. The rest go live over the following weeks, or do not. Your order also sits in a queue for the first few weeks with no work done, and the whole job takes up to four weeks. Budget for a month and a half before you judge the result.
The two remaining subscriptions are priced in opposite directions. Reputation Builder, the review-request tool, is $79 per location per month for 3,000 email requests, 300 SMS credits and review monitoring on 10 sites. That is expensive next to review tools that charge per account rather than per location, and its dashboard and support are English only.
Local Platform is the other extreme: Google Business Profile management for $1 per location per month, billed annually. It locks profiles against unwanted updates, lets you edit many locations in bulk, and can generate a basic website from the profile's data. For a franchise with 200 locations, that is $2,400 a year.
The biggest one is in the terms: "we do not offer refunds on any of our Paid accounts." You can cancel at any time and keep access until the period ends, but an annual Rank Tracker plan bought in a hurry is a year you have paid for. Use the trials first.
The à la carte model also cuts both ways. An agency that wants rank tracking, grids, citations and reviews ends up with four logins, four invoices and four report formats, where BrightLocal hands it one dashboard. There is no technical SEO auditing or backlink data at all, a gap third-party reviews keep pointing out, along with an interface that can feel dated.
And there is no AI-search visibility tracking. That is an odd gap for a company whose 2026 Ranking Factors survey added a whole section on AI search, ranking "presence on expert-curated best-of lists" as the top factor. The MCP connector lets AI read your grid data; nothing tells you whether ChatGPT or Google's AI Overviews mention your business.
Outside opinion is thin. Trustpilot shows 3.8 out of 5 from just four reviews, too few to mean much. G2 sits around 4.6 from roughly 20 reviews, with ease of setup and support both scoring well.
Buy Whitespark if you need one or two local SEO jobs done well and cheaply. Map-pack tracking from $14 a month, geo-grids from $10, GBP management at $1 a location and a one-time citation cleanup that leaves you owning the logins are all the best value in their class. Agencies that only resell grids and rankings get unbranded reports without paying extra for them.
Skip it if you want one platform and one invoice for everything local - BrightLocal costs more per tool but bundles audits, citations and reviews under a single white-label dashboard. Skip it too if geo-grids are your whole business and you want the most polished heatmaps; Local Falcon costs the same at volume and built its whole product around them. And if your main worry for 2027 is whether AI assistants recommend you, neither tool answers it yet.
